VASCO: Queuing up to scan their bags before check in at Dabolim Airport would soon be a thing of past as Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials at Dabolim Airport have decided to introduce in-line x-ray baggage system. Purchase orders for the same have already been issued and the new system is planned to be put into operation by mid 2018.
According to Airport Authority of India officials, the in-line x-ray baggage system will significantly reduce passenger processing time and congestion during departure.
“At present departure passengers having registered check in baggage, have to first stand in a separate queue near one of the six x-ray machines installed near the entrance of departure gate. Then the passengers have to stand in another queue at the check in counter. However, once this in-line x-ray baggage system will be operational, the passengers have to just go check in counter, handover the baggage and that’s all. This will help in reducing congestion at the airport,” BCH Negi AAI Director said.
Negi said, “To speed up security check process and address congestion in Security Hold Area, AAI Goa has started use of domestic and international security check infrastructure and security hold areas for domestic passengers during the peak afternoon period when there are no international flight operations.”
