SANGUEM: On the eve of elections results, the candidates of major political parties in Sanguem are upbeat and are highly optimistic of winning the elections by a huge margin.
Right from the day of polling, the BJP candidate Subhash Phaldessai, Independent candidate Prasad Gaonkar and Congress candidate Mrs Savitri Kavlekar were ecstatic over their winning prospects.
Sitting BJP MLA Subhash Phaldessai is banking on the development works he has undertaken in the constituency during his tenure as MLA and also on the high turnout of women voters.
Though no noticeable movement could be seen at his Sanguem residence, sources in the know informed that four buses are being arranged for his supporters to travel to Margao on the counting day. Efforts to contact Phaldessai proved futile as his cell phone was out of coverage area.
Independent candidate Prasad Gaonkar, who may spring a surprise in Sanguem, is in an upbeat mood.
Speaking to Herald, Gaonkar showed positive signs of winning the elections by a huge margin. “The silent votes by those against the BJP candidate will do the trick for me,” Gaonkar said.
Congress candidate Kavlekar was not seen much in Sanguem after the elections. However, Sanguem Congress workers are optimistic of winning the elections with a huge margin. Though no specific arrangements are made to transport supporters to the counting centre, a large number of Congress supporters are expected make their presence felt at Margao on the counting day.
The movement of AAP candidate Ravindra Velip and also that of BBSM’s Vasudev Meng Gaonkar and the independent candidate Dattaprasad Sanguemkar has been minimal ever since the elections and there is no much anticipation among the supporters of these candidates for the counting day celebrations.
