PONDA: Ponda police have successfully solved a case of theft that took place at the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Khandepar on April 10. The thief mistakenly dislodged a passbook printer machine worth Rs 1.50 lakh and broke it open, hoping for cash. The police have arrested Gautam Kumar, a 29-year-old resident of Bihar, for the crime.
The accused was allegedly roaming freely in the Khandepar area after the incident, and even brazenly entered the ATM kiosk he had robbed. The police maintained a vigil and used CCTV footage to further the investigation. The CCTV footage from the bank revealed that the accused had covered his face with a shirt while entering the ATM cabin. Police said the accused was traced based on his description, body language, style of walking, height, and footwear, and he confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The locals praised the police for their quick action. An offence under Sections 427,380 of IPC stands registered at the Ponda police station.
