PANJIM: In view of possible light rain and thunderstorms over Goa from March 8, the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) Goa has issued a crop specific impact based forecast advising farmers to take up necessary precautions.
The IMD has said that due to forecast of light rainfall at isolated places and increase in humidity, the pest and diseases may attack paddy cultivation and hence farmers are advised to take up control measures against blight and leaf folder in Rabi paddy.
Farmers are advised to take up control measures against sucking pests and pod borer for Cowpea or Alsando as pest population might increase due to change in weather phenomena.
It has also said that flowering of crops like groundnut and chilli may also be affected owing to which measure against sucking pests are necessary.
The unseasonal rains will also affect cash crops like mango and cashew due to pests.
