Incomplete Khandepar Bridge dangerous for motorists: MLA

PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik on Wednesday inspected newly constructed  Khandepar bridge and expressed his disappointment over the incomplete bridge which was hurriedly inaugurated two year ago.

He said government should  come clear as to when the bridge will be completed.

Addressing media persons, he said “It is two years now the  bridge has been constructed by spending crores of rupees and it cannot be used by  the vehicles on NH as ramp towards Ponda side is not constructed to the approach road of bridge.”

He said the incomplete road has turned into a picnic spot for anti-social elements, who break empty bottles after consuming liquor. The incomplete stretch is dangerous for motorists.

He said in absence of a ramp the vehicles on NH bridge  are proceeding from service road and this could prove dangerous for locals as it could invite accidents at Opa Junction.

The Government should deposit the money with the land owners for acquiring land to construct a ramp towards the Ponda side of the bridge so that the work can be completed.

He said the cost of the incomplete  bridge has been increasing. Initially it was estimated at Rs 287 crore, now the cost has increased to Rs 389 crore, which includes the cost of acquisition of land for a ramp, which is yet to be constructed .
