Ind candidate wins Latambarcem seat

BICHOLIM: Independent candidate Pradeep Revodkar on Monday won the Latambarcem Zilla Parishad seat by defeating BJP’s Shruti Ghatwal.  Pradeep polled 5,862 votes while Shruti secured 3,751. Congress candidate Govind Mandrekar polled 1,032 votes. 

Revodkar was supported by former Latambarcem Zilla Parishad member Sanjay Shetye.  

Shetye said, “He is fully obliged to the faith and confidence shown by the people considering his past performance.”

In Karapur-Sarvan Constituency, BJP candidate Mahesh Sawant polled 4,497 votes to defeat MGP candidate Yogesh Pednekar by 954 votes. Pednekar secured 3,543 votes. 

Ajay Naik and Meghana Yende (both IND) got 1,015 and 440 votes respectively.

In Mayem Constituency, Shankar Chodankar of BJP won by a 126-vote margin. He polled 3,397 votes to defeat Independent candidate Premendra Shet, who secured 3,271 votes.  

Congress candidate Prasad Chodankar polled 1,053 votes while, independent candidates Rajesh Kalangutkar, Krishna Volvoikar and Deepkumar Mapari secured 2,383, 550 and 313 votes respectively while, MGP candidate Narayan Tari managed to get 239 votes.

Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye said, “The social work from Karapur-Sarvan and Mayem Constituency, which comes under my jurisdiction will continue in future.” 

Mayem BJP Block President Dayanand Karbotkar and winning candidate Shankar Chodankar expressed similar views.

In Pale Constituency, Gopal Surlakar of BJP, who polled 7,139 votes, defeated Congress candidate Suryakant Gawade by over 4,050 votes. Suryakant secured 3,083 votes. Independent candidate Umakant Jalmi polled 627 votes. 

Gawade said he would try to keep up the faith and confidence shown by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in him.
