PORVORIM: Gupesh Naik, independent candidate contesting ZP election from Penha de Franca constituency, stated that during his last two tenures, he spent about Rs 1.20 crore towards development works in Porvorim constituency.
Addressing a news conference at Porvorim, Naik, supported by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, said the development works include construction of hall of Sateri temple and beautification of gardens at Porvorim and Salvador-do-Mundo, retaining walls, fixation of tiles at Pundalik Devastan, etc.
“ZP members could not get sufficient funds during the BJP and Congress rule and hence it was not possible for me to undertake more developmental works,” he said.
“If elected with the assistance of local MLA Khaunte, I will take up more developmental projects in Penha de Franca constituency,” said Naik.
Speaking further, Naik said the delimitation of constituencies has been done by the State government with a selfish motive to get BJP candidates elected.
“I strongly believe that ZP elections should not be held on party lines, as it will create problems of solving the issues of the common man at grass-root level. However, the voters are intelligent enough and I am confident that the voters will elect me once again to serve them,” said Naik.
