PANJIM: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday said that India has an uninterrupted rich cultural history of nearly 4,000 years and its permanent identity is unity beyond caste, religion and geographical differences.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the programme organised at the Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall, Dona Paula on the occasion of conclusion of the 15-month long ‘Goa Grama Sampurna Yatra’ of Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai. Khan praised the activities of Sreedharan Pillai, who visited 191 village panchayats and 421 villages of Goa and interacted with the elected representatives of those places and provided financial assistance to more than cancer patients, diabetic patients undergoing dialysis and 91 voluntary organisations. He opined that Pillai believed in the Indian philosophy of ‘Manavaseva Madhavseva’. In his reply, Pillai said that it was an important achievement in his life to be able to visit all the villages of Goa and interact with the common people and public representatives there.
On the occasion of Constitution Day, Pillai delivered the lecture on the topic of the challenges faced by Indian Constitution. Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar presided over the event and Union Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Shripad Naik, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao and others spoke.
The messages of former President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant were also read out.
