Several Indian sailors, including Goans, on board Diamond Princess are tested negative of Coronavirus and will soon head back home.
The Goa Seamen Association in an update said, “As per the latest news received from the hiring agent from Mumbai Milind Kurturkar, the Indian crew will most likely arrive in New Delhi on a chartered flight where all the crew will be quarantined for 14 days and will be given treatment and once they are cleared by the doctors they will be able to return to their respective States.”
GSA Spokesman Dixon Vaz said that according to the head office only the seamen who opted to disembark would be flown home and many seamen have volunteered to stay back and continue the remaining period of their contract.
“Currently the ship has no guests and is being cleaned and sanitised and the crew on board is being monitored daily. The company has also promised to pay two months of extra salary to all the crew who were on board during this period,” Dixon said.
