Indian Stock Market Adjusts Schedule: Full Trading on Saturday, Holiday on Monday due to Ram Mandir Pran Pratishta

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will conduct a full trading session on Saturday, January 20th, as announced in a circular by the BSE on Friday. This decision follows the Government of Maharashtra’s declaration of January 22nd as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in observance of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishta scheduled for Monday.

The trading session on Saturday will encompass regular hours, spanning across the equity, securities, lending and borrowing (SLB), and equity derivatives segments, as confirmed by the exchange. However, Monday will witness the closure of trading in equities, debt, and money markets due to the public holiday in Maharashtra.

In alignment with the central government’s directive, a half-day closing is slated until 2:30 p.m. IST on Monday, commemorating the inauguration of the Ram Temple. Initially set for two special sessions on Saturday, the stock market aimed to test a guaranteed system for trading but has now adjusted its schedule in consideration of the public holiday on Monday.
