MARGAO: Ukraine volunteers were not allowing Indian students to cross the borders, and they were creating deliberate hurdles, besides the Ukrainian soldiers were assaulting the Indians, alleged Joelifa Goes, a medical student, stranded in Ukraine, and returned back home safely on Friday morning.

Speaking to Herald she also said that there are several Indian students stranded in war-torn places of Kharkiv and Kiev, and their lives are in danger.

Joelifa was doing her second year in medicine at Vinnytsia National University.

“On the border the experience was very bad, as thousands of students and civilians were lined up to move out from the Ukraine. It was a totally traumatizing scene. Ukrainian soldiers were not allowing the Indians to cross the borders and were creating deliberate hurdles. It was very cold and snowing, and we had no food to eat. We were freezing,” said Goes.

She further said that the Ukrainian soldiers were assaulting, and beating the Indians at the border.

Goes appealed to the Indian government to help the students and civilians of India, mostly who are stranded in Kharvie and Kiev, besides Sumy, as their life is in danger. They have no water and food over there.

She left the Vinnytsia on February 26 by bus and thereafter walked nearly 10 kilometres towards the Romania border.

“I was a mentally disturbed, as the loud sound of firing and bombarding would be heard at regular intervals. It was very stressful, and I was feeling scared. There was no proper food, besides the stress was unbearable. There was a shortage of water. I was hiding in the bunkers for nearly two days,” said Goes.
