Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said India’s first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is scheduled to be ready by August 15, 2027, with operations beginning in a phased manner. He said the first operational stretch will be Surat–Bilimora, followed by Vapi–Surat, Vapi–Ahmedabad, Thane–Ahmedabad and finally the full Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor.
Vaishnaw added that the inaugural run in August 2027 will cover a 100-km stretch between Surat and Vapi, instead of the earlier planned 50 km between Surat and Bilimora. The 508-km high-speed rail corridor is designed for trains running at speeds of up to 320 kmph and is expected to reduce travel time to around 2 hours and 17 minutes once fully operational.
