Indiscipline warning: Late drivers will be marked absent, says Margao Chairperson

MARGAO: In an attempt to reign in indiscipline amongst staffers, the Margao Municipal Council has initiated strict supervision of drivers employed by the civic body. Any driver who is late by 30 minutes or more will now be marked absent.

Damodar Shirodkar, Chairperson of MMC, expressed concern about the continuous complaints from councillors regarding the tardiness of drivers, leading to daily wage labourers arriving late for their cleaning duties.

There are approximately 32 drivers engaged by the civic body, including those responsible for garbage trucks and official vehicles. “The civic body is paying salaries to the drivers, and hence, we expect more dedicated service from them.

Late arrivals are causing significant problems in starting works in respective wards, and such indiscipline will not be tolerated in the future,” warned the Chairperson.

He also noted that many drivers take extended tea breaks, some lasting an hour. The three supervisors have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance on the drivers. Those arriving 30 minutes late for duty will be marked as absent and sent back home, according to the Chairperson.

Sadanand Naik, a councillor, also observed instances of drivers arriving with labourers in his ward, after 9.30 in the morning, leading to delays in completing assigned tasks.
