MARGAO: With the TCP Department rejecting its plea for waiver of infrastructure tax in respect of its commercial complex cum municipal hall, the Cuncolim Municipal Council has been left with no option than to withdraw a fixed deposit certificate before maturity to pay the infrastructure tax.
“The TCP rejected our request to waive Rs 18 lakh infrastructure tax. We had requested for waiver on grounds that the market and commercial complex were public utility projects. But, we have now been forced to withdraw a FD certificate before maturity”, CMC Chairperson said.
In fact, the Cuncolim Municipal Council on Wednesday gave its go-ahead signal to the Civic body to withdraw the fixed deposit certificate since it could not arrange the Rs 18 lakh amount to clear the infrastructure tax.
“Unless the Civic body could pay the infrastructure tax, we could not auction the 13 odd commercial shops in the commercial complex. By auctioning the shops, we hope to earn a revenue of Rs 2.5 lakh a month”, the Chairperson said.
Though the commercial complex was declared complete in all respects in November two years ago, the commercial complex still waits commissioning till date for reasons best known to the city fathers.
