Injured TN tourist dies, driver arrested

CALANGUTE: A teenage student from Tamil Nadu, identified as Raghul, 18, who had been seriously injured in a car accident at Calangute on Saturday morning passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, on Sunday morning.  

Calangute police on Sunday arrested Kesiranjan Mohan for driving the car in a rash and negligent manner. 

The deceased was part of a group of four students from Tamil Nadu on holiday in Goa. They were going to Calangute on Saturday morning when the driver lost control of the rental car on the Chogm Road in front of Calangute church allegedly due to a burst tire, smashed into the road-divider and crashed into another car coming from the opposite direction in the other lane. 

Two of the students, Raghul and Kaushik Manicker, had been seriously injured in the incident which occurred at around 7.40 am near the Dolphin circle in front of Calangute church. They had been admitted in the GMC Bambolim where Raghul expired. Kaushik has been discharged. The driver of the other car, a tourist taxi, escaped unhurt.

The other two students are identified as Bijoy Daniel Amiel and Kaushik Manicker. All were in the 18-21 age group.

The car was coming towards Calangute at high speed when the driver lost control, hit the divider and the car rolled four times and crashed into an oncoming car in the next lane, according to eyewitnesses. Both the cars were damaged.
