Injured while on duty? MMC daily wage workers to be compensated

MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council at its meeting unanimously resolved to pay compensation to daily wage workers who get injured while on duty besides approving the promotion of some staff members.
Presently, the daily wage workers employed by MMC are not entitled for any compensation for injuries sustained while on duty and hence it was decided to pay a compensation of Rs one lakh to any such labourer who sustains injuries.
MMC chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai pointed out that grievous injuries are well defined and anybody sustaining those injuries will be compensated. It was also decided to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh in case of death due to injury sustained while on duty or if there was a permanent disability.
Accepting the minutes of the Departmental Promotion Committee it was decided promote Jerry Rodrigues who is working as a LDC to municipal inspector the post which had fallen vacant following the retirement of an official.
To fill up the post turning vacant following the LDC Jerry’s promotion, it was decided to promote Rosa Alemao as a LDC. The council also decided to seek a clarification from the administration on the recruitment rules for a driver.
Some councillors led by Ketan Kurtarkar demanded a list of vacant posts and particularly the posts that have lapsed which are numbering nearly 70 it was stated.
MMC also decided to appoint Adv A Misquita as a full-time advocate for a fee of Rs 200 per case and the advocate would sit in the council for half a day daily. It was disclosed that the advocate has been practicing for the last 10 years.
The MMC also resolved to relocate the St Francis Chapel near Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to the Sports Authority of Goa grounds as the resolution was required by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation to commence the work.
