Inquiry initiated against Kejriwal’s poll speech

PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has directed the District Election Officer (DEO) South Goa to conduct a detailed inquiry into a complaint filed by BJP against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for alleged violation of model code of conduct (MCC) by way of inciting religious sentiments during his poll speech. Kejriwal, the star campaigner for Aam Aadmi Party had addressed poll rally in Margao and Vasco on Saturday, April 13.
A senior Chief Electoral Officer said that in view of the complaint, a letter has been issued to the District Election Officer, South Goa to conduct an inquiry. “We have asked the election officer to verify allegations made and take appropriate action and submit the action taken report,” officer said.
BJP North Goa candidate’s election agent, Keshav Prabhu, in his complaint has attached several newspaper cuttings in a bid to validate that Kejriwal tried to create communal disharmony in the State. “Kejriwal has been reported to have made utterances such as ‘Mob lynching taking place in the county under the guise of cattle theft is actually organized murder’,” the complaint stated.
Prabhu has further accused Kejriwal for trying to propagate fear mongering among the Christian and Muslim community by his utterance that ‘Christians and Muslims will be driven into the sea under the guise of infiltrators’.
