PANJIM: South Western Railway (SWR) has initiated an inquiry into the incident that took place on Tuesday, where Train No 18048 Vasco-Howrah Amaravati Express derailed between Dudhsagar and Caranzol stations.
The front wheels of the locomotive engine derailed around 8.56 am within minutes of the train leaving Dudhsagar station and the re-railment of the said front wheels of the leading locomotive was completed by 11.30 am by the Accident Relief Team, said an official.
SWR General Manager Sanjeev Kishore and his team had earlier rushed to the derailment spot and conducted an inspection.
“The root cause that led to the derailment will be identified and necessary corrective measures shall be immediately initiated,” said Kishore.
Kishore further ordered a special safety drive in the entire Braganza Ghat section (Castle Rock-Kulem).
Kishore also inspected the guard brake van of Train No 12779 Vasco-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express and interacted with the train manager.
Kishore appreciated the speedy response by the Hubballi division in moving the manpower by accident relief train.
“Because of the swift action, restoration was completed within 2.5 hours. All arrangements provided for passengers including interacting with on board passengers and catering arrangements of breakfast and lunch were done expeditiously,” said Kishore.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Hubballi division, Arvind Malkhede, Principal Chief Engineer, SPS Gupta, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, P Ravikumar, Principal Chief Safety Officer Alok Tiwari along with other officers were present.
