PORVORIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday informed the House that an inquiry has been ordered into the illegal clinical trials and medical research conducted by a doctor attached to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).
Recently, Herald broke the news with the headline “Goan patients used as guinea pigs for research”, exposing how clinical trials and medical research are being carried out by over a dozen faculty members keeping the government in the dark.
Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, after Question Hour Session, brought to the notice of the State Legislative Assembly about the media report. He sought to know the action initiated by the government.
Responding to it, Rane said an inquiry under the Health Secretary has been ordered and assured that those involved in any illegal act would not be spared.
“Stringent action will be taken against each and everyone involved in it. Even against those, who tried to keep the matter undercover,” the minister said.
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar in an order issued on August 7, has asked his predecessor Dr Pradip Naik and three other lecturers to submit details about the clinical trials conducted in the State-run premier hospital.
