PONDA: The Parent-Teachers Association of a school at Kavlem-Ponda rejected the food supplied by a self-help group from Kavlem on Friday, after a dead insect was found in the bhaji.
“We have been requesting the State government to hand over the mid-day meal scheme to the PTA.
Such incidents have been reported in different parts of the State and it will be wise to give responsibility of the mid-day meal scheme to PTA,” said PTA President Sangam Borkar in a press note.
“The government could also handover the ration or expenditure for each student to their parents. If government cannot do either of the two then the scheme should be stopped rather than providing sub-standard food through the self help groups,” added Borkar.
When contacted, Suchitra Naik of Shantadurga Self Help group claimed that she was unaware of the fact that there was an insect in the food item.
“The school principal informed me about the incident. We use different types of vegetables and it could be from the beans. I will inquire into it,” she said.
