PANJIM: Concerned citizens of the Assagao have raised their objections to the manner which local panchayat has been issuing the construction licences and have demanded that after site inspection the licences may be issued.
Complaint has been filed by Leander Ataide to the Assagao Village Panchayat office citing a construction of a bungalow of which the septic and soak pit is being constructed at the proximity of the famous Assagao spring.
Apprehension has been raised by the locals that the natural spring may vanish with the rampant construction in the vicinity of the spring.
Ataide has submitted the survey plan of the village in which it has clearly shown that some areas adjourning the spring are demarcated as orchard and private forest.
The soak pit and the septic tank is constructed near the spring and there is every possibility that the water will get polluted in the future, Ataide said.
He said that the aquatic as well as terrestrial life in the vicinity would be affected if such projects would come in the locality of the spring.
Another resident from Assagao village Joshua D’Souza said that the necessary action should be initiated by the panchayat and further progress in the said construction should be immediately stopped by the authorities.
