MARGAO: Even as the Town and Country Planning Department is expected to issue the stop work order to M/s Raheja Universal Pvt Ltd over its controversial project at Carmona, the site inspection scheduled by the Carmona Panchayat will most probably be postponed.
It may be recalled that the Raheja’s project was hotly debated at the gram sabha held on August 13 and the villagers had demanded that the new panchayat body carry out a fresh site inspection.
In fact, the panchayat vide a letter dated July 27, 2017 had asked the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department to hold a joint site inspection.
The TCP in its letter dated pointed out that the Carmona Village Social Welfare Forum had filed a case challenging the technical clearance given to the project and the construction license granted by the panchayat. Since the matter is sub judice, the TCP opined that it would not be prudent to hold the inspection. However, the panchayat decided to inspect the site without the TCP on September 2. But it will have to be postponed now as September 2 is likely to be a public holiday.
