MAPUSA: An inspection of a private forest at Assagao, scheduled on Wednesday, has been postponed by the Goa Forest Department.
The inspection was scheduled following a complaint by the Goa Green Brigade that the private forest has been destroyed. Concerned citizens were present at the inspection near the cross at Bairo Alto, Assagao.
The inspection was fixed at 11 am, but it was postponed to 12 noon but was unable to go there due to some other inspection due to which the villagers who had gathered there returned home disappointed.
Since the forest officials failed to inspect the private forest as scheduled, the Goa Green Brigade has lodged a protest with the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, on Wednesday.
Goa Green Brigade coordinator Avertino Miranda said that he put forth their displeasure over the postponement of the inspection before the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest.
“Considering the fact that many villagers from Assagao were waiting for the inspection, it would have been prudent on the part of the official to inform us in advance that they have a prior engagement and saved our precious time. The forest official has fixed the inspection on Thursday. We hope that he keeps up with his commitment of the appointment of the inspection of private forest area at Assagao without fail,” said Miranda.
