PANJIM: Following the killing of four tigers in the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, the State government has decided to develop a protocol to provide instant relief to people whose livestock and properties get damaged due to attack by wild animals.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, along with Chief Secretary Parimal Rai and State Forest Department officials, on Tuesday met Governor Satya Pal Malik to brief him about the recent tiger killings.
In a statement issued, the government has said that the Governor was informed of the decision taken to provide succour in the form of ex-gratia relief to persons who have lost their livestock due to tiger attack. “The Governor was also informed that it has been decided to develop a protocol to provide instant relief to the affected persons for damages due to attacks by wild animals,” it added.
The meeting also deliberated on tiger protection and conservation measures and various mitigation strategies for minimising human and wildlife conflict.
Four from Goluli in Sattari have been arrested in connection with the killing of tigers. The accused said they killed the tigers in revenge as the wildcat had killed their cattle.
Also, Forest Department failed to provide them any compensation.
