PANJIM: The State government is set to enhance the capacity of the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim with an additional 100 beds by spending Rs 50 crore.
The foundation stone for the project, to be executed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), will be laid on January 14. The project will come up on 4,000 sq mtrs of land adjacent to the existing IPHB building.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the new building would be a centre of excellence, with salient features such as a courtyard for activities and therapies, lecture hall with capacity from 30-100, counselling room and provision of ECT room.
Rane said the facility will also serve the purpose of quality psychiatric services, training and research by increasing the number of seats, to introduce post graduate courses, to expand the community outreach programme.
