Institutions, parents to be consulted on school reopening

PANJIM: Directorate of Education (DoE) on Thursday announced that the decision on reopening schools and colleges for the academic year 2020-21 will be taken in July. 

In a circular, Education Director Vandana Rao said that government administrations are expected to hold consultations at the institution level with parents and other stakeholders on re-opening educational institutions, as per directions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). 

Rao said the Ministry has instructed that in phase II (unlock) schools, colleges, educational, training, coaching institutions, etc will be opened after consultation with States and Union Territories. 

“State administrations are expected to hold consultations at the institution level with parents and other stakeholders. Based on the feedback, a decision on re-opening of the institutions will be taken in the month of July,” she said.

Heads of all schools have been instructed to hold consultations with parents and other stakeholders either online or telephonically and communicate their suggestions by email. 

On Wednesday, in another circular, schools had been directed to opt for online classes. The department had advised schools to support students in making the best use of technology.
