Panjim: In view of the ongoing work of the new Zuari Bridge, the State government has notified temporary diversion of interstate buses plying from Margao/Vasco (South District) towards Panjim and vice versa for a period of one year.
As per the notification issued by the South Collector Agnelo Fernandes, the interstate buses will be diverted via Margao-Nuvem -Arlem-Raia-Borim- -Ponda towards their further journey and vice versa. Directions are also issued to place signages to ensure the people are not put to any inconvenience.
The notification comes after the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, South Goa, pointed out that in view of the ongoing construction works of the New Zuari Bridge and its ramps from Sharayu Toyota Showroom Verna towards Cortalim Circle and further up to Bambolim Church, the carriage way of NH-17(NH 66) has been reduced drastically at various locations, bottlenecks are formed leading to traffic congestion and vehicular traffic movement are at snail’s pace throughout the day and night. During the peak traffic hours long serpentine queues of vehicular traffic are witnessed. The traffic police’s report further stated the problem compounds due to continuous plying of heavy interstate buses in large numbers.
Since the laying of the spine of the bridge and wings have commenced, the district administration observed that diversion of traffic is essential to reduce traffic congestion.
The South Collector has also directed to ensure that no annoyance is caused to the general public and nearby residents, safety and security of the road commuters are ensured and proper signages of “Road Closed”, “No Entry”, “Take Diversion /work in progress” etc on both the sides of road closure are displayed.
Flash light for guidance of the motorists, pedestrians and other road users, alternate road for diversion is left free for vehicular traffic without any obstruction is among other set of condition laid down by the Collector.
