Inter-State taxis’ movement barred

Directions for all types of taxis will be in force till midnight of March 31; In case of emergency, private cars carrying up to 4 passengers are allowed to move around the State

PANJIM: The Goa government has barred inter-state movement of all types of tourist taxis till March 31 as it heightened preventive measure to fight COVID-19. These vehicles are however allowed only in case of emergency situation. 

Similarly, private cars up to four passengers are allowed to move around the State. 

The order issued by Transport Department states that these restrictions are taken as preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.

“No tourist taxi or yellow/black taxi will be permitted inter-state movement except in medical emergencies. These restrictions are with immediate effect and will remain in force up to the midnight of March 31, 2020. All contract state-carriages and maxi cabs will abide by the orders issued under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code 1973, dated March 20, 2020 by District Magistrates; and private cars will be permitted (carrying) up to 4 persons, not including infants/children,” reads the order issued by Director (Transport) Rajan Satardekar. 

The Goa government has been taking several steps to ensure Goa remains safe from COVID-19, which has claimed at least seven lives and infected more than 400 in the country so far.
