PANJIM: Analysts say that there will be an interesting straight contest in North Goa while Congress holds an edge in the South.
In North AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik is seeking a record fifth consecutive term and is challenged by Congress State president Girish Chodankar. In the South, sitting MP Naresh Sawaikar is facing a tough challenge from Congress’ Francisco Sardinha, while Aam Aadmi Party’s Elvis Gomes is also in the fray.
The campaign was laced with allegations and counter allegations mainly between BJP and Congress, who are considered the main contenders for the two Lok Sabha seats. Both political rivals are also battling each other in the three Assembly constituencies.
While Congress could not bring in any star campaigner, except for former actor Nagma, for their campaign, BJP had its central leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis in the State.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also addressed a public meeting at Margao in support of party candidates.
