International mail service soon

PANJIM: Goa Postal Division will soon start international mail service to tide over the sagging letters volume and the falling revenues.

Speaking to Herald on the eve of World Post Day, Goa Postal senior superintendent Dr Sudhir E Jakhere said, “As tourist season is coming we are going to have major thrust in international mail service. We have chosen almost 150 top hotels in Goa where we will provide dedicated counter service. Tourist has to only drop his/her article with us and our person will pick it up, book it for them and deliver it to any part of location.”

Jakhere said that Goa Postal will also start a helpline number for the customised international mail service which will start functioning from next week.

Jakhere said that in view of the advent of email and digital technology like Facebook and Whatsapp and green initiative, mail volume has declined and that the Goa Postal is venturing into parcel business which is increasing exponentially. Though there was tremendous drop in revenues, we are service oriented and during COVID-19 pandemic Goa Postal transported PPE kits, medicines by starting a dedicated road and traffic network. We also plan to collaborate with Indian Railways for last mile connectivity in parcel services.

Jakhere said that the ambitious Goa Philatelic Museum, the second in the country after National Philatelic Museum, New Delhi will be inaugurated within next few months. It will have three sections – History of Goan art, culture and heritage; Indian Panorama and international philately. It will also have rooms for workshops, research and library while, a special scanner will also be put up at the Museum to scan foreign articles by the Customs.

On the occasion of World Postal Day on October 9, the Goa Post will release a special pack of post cards on Wildlife Diversity in Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary at its Head Office, Patto-Panjim at 10:30 am.
