VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has been directed to remove all the cables of the internet service providers from the electricity poles from the port town. The decision was taken after Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar held a joint inspection of the underground cabling works in the city along with Mormugao Chairperson Girish Borker, councillors and officials of the electricity department on Monday. According to Salkar, a few of the ISP operators have agreed and are in the process of laying the data cables underground. He said that the Mormugao chief officer has been directed to initiate action against the cable and service providers, who even do not have statutory licence from the telecom department.
Salkar claimed that the data cable operators had taken everyone for granted and warned them of action if they do not stop their unauthorised business. He pointed out that he had raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly but found out that the government did not have any policy for this. The Vasco
MLA said that the underground cabling work will be completed within a month after which no further work will be entertained in the entire constituency.
