For over a fortnight, the city residents are suffering from regular power failures, with the State Electricity department at a fix to resolve the crisis. The department has now decided to reconductor the two-decade-old 110 KV electricity conductor from Palsarem in Marcel to Kadamba supplying electricity to Tiswadi taluka.
The non-functioning of the Thivim power sub-station, which is currently working on one circuit, has led to interrupted power supply to the entire Tiswadi taluka including the capital city. The Taluka receives electricity from the main circuit running from Thivim to Ponda which is tapped midway at Palsarem in Marcel. One of the circuits along the double circuit line from Palsarem to Kadamba supplying electricity to Tiswadi has been switched off since October 10 to allow work to be carried out on the other circuit and as such the consumers were asked to reduce their power consumption.
The city is witnessing continuous load sheding as the electricity department has tapped power from sub-stations in Porvorim and Ponda. However, the same could satisfy only 20 percent of the consumers.
The Kadamba conductor is being reconductored by Vedanta Sterlite at a work order cost of 62 crore, and it is expected to give four times more power supply to the taluka.
