Intervention plea filed in Old Goa illegal structure issue

Last month, the High Court while citing the law of natural justice set aside the revocation of technical clearance given by the TCP Department. The matter has now been posted for the next hearing on October 20.

PANJIM: An intervention application was filed in the Old Goa illegal structure matter being heard before the Additional Director of Panchayats. This is the fourth intervention application filed so far in the matter.

Intervener Agnelo Barreto has claimed that he has more evidence to prove that the bungalow built in the world heritage zone is illegal. “I had filed an intervention application in August and it has been admitted in the court of Director of Panchayat,” he said adding that he has prayed for the demolition of the illegal bungalow.

Following protests by the people against the illegal structure at Old Goa, the Se Old Goa Village Panchayat and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department revoked the permissions and clearances issued to the project. The State government was also cornered in the Legislative Assembly over the matter of the illegal structure. 

Petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the said illegal construction. Last month, the High Court while citing the law of natural justice set aside the revocation of technical clearance given by the TCP Department.

The matter has now been posted for the next hearing on October 20.
