Invest in State organic agri projects, DyCM urges Goan expats

MARGAO: Stating that Goa is developing as an organic agriculture State, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar called upon the Goan business community in the Gulf to invest in organic agricultural projects in the State.
Kavlekar was speaking as the chief guest at the dinner dance event organized at Hotel Holiday Inn, Doha, Qatar on Friday in the presence of Indian Ambassador to Qatar P Kumaran (guest of honour) and Portuguese Ambassador to Qatar Ricardo Pracana (special guest).
The annual event is organised by Goan Welfare Association, which has been active in Qatar for last two decades to celebrate the inclusion of Konkani as official Language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution in 1992. For the first time the Goa government was represented at the event which was attended by around 1000 Goans from 6 Gulf countries including UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Kavlekar said, “Goan farmers are already engaged in traditional farming. If we study the method and we improve upon it, farmers can get a better yield. Like Israel if we implement modern technologies we can make an impact on organic farming internationally.”
The Deputy CM said, “The Government is doing its bit to bring organic agriculture of Goa to the forefront. As a part of this, we are in process of setting up Organic Agricultural University in Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has approved in principle the project proposal at the very first meeting held at his residence. Having an Organic Agricultural University will not only benefit students, but farmers predominantly. Research done at the university will help state farmers in getting export quality yield. Several markets across the world are ready for quality organic produce.”
Simon D’Mello also spoke on the occasion.  Goans living in the Gulf countries were honoured for excellence in various fields.
