Invisible signboards troubling people in Curchorem

CURCHOREM: Missing or hidden signboards in Curchorem are landing a lot of innocent people in trouble as they are fined by police for no fault of theirs.

For example, the ‘No Parking’ signboard near the railway station is not only bent but also covered by tree branches and not at all visible.

As the signboard is not visible, people park their vehicles there only to be fined as happened to one person last morning who is not from the town but just come there for the first time.

“As I am not from Curchorem and as the signboard was not visible, I parked by vehicle and got fined and the policeman refused to listen to me even though he admitted that the signboard was not visible,” said the motorist.

Former CCMC councillor Manohar Naik pointed out that the signboards stating “No Entry” for heavy vehicles which were erected in the city have now disappeared/ due to this, he said heavy vehicles enter the market anytime of the day thereby causing traffic jams and nuisance to the common man.

Manohar demanded that the authorities immediately take up this matter and install these signboards so that traffic discipline can be maintained.

Chairperson of Cuncolim Cacora Municipal Council Pradip Naik said now that the matter is brought to his notice, he will send a team to inspect all the signboards and take appropriate action on the matter.

However, he did not give any time period within which the action would be taken, and till then people will have to suffer while the police will continue to challan them for no fault of theirs.
