PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has suspected political backing into the poster canvassing for nude party at Morjim while demanding a thorough investigation to track down all the persons involved in the offence.
The regional party has also taken a potshot at Minister Michael Lobo claiming that Calangute, the constituency which he represents, is the epicenter of such illicit trades.
“Whether the poster was fake or not, there are many illegal activities taking place in the northern coastal belt and Calangute is its epicenter. It has been learnt that the nude party poster actually originated from Calangute. Therefore, we demand that police investigate into this case thoroughly, and find out the source of the poster,” party’s Vice President Dilip Prabhudessai told a press conference at the party head office on Tuesday.
The police, a week ago, had arrested 30-year-old Armaan Mehta of Bihar for allegedly circulating poster inviting people for a nude party at Morjim. He was brought to Goa on Monday and his custodial interrogation is underway at the Crime Branch.
As per the investigation, Mehta was hit by bankruptcy prompting him to float a poster about hosting nude pool parties in Goa where he had once visited with his friends October last year. The police have also said that accused downloaded few pictures from the internet, edited them using a mobile app and circulated through social media. He however panicked and switched his phone off after he began receiving inquiries from India and abroad.
Notwithstanding the probe and confession made by the accused so far, the GFP has demanded that police “should get to the bottom of the case” suspecting political backing.
“There is something suspicious…  What is the truth into Mehta’s bankruptcy story? The police should get to the bottom of it. Drugs, prostitution etc is going on in coastal belt with Calangute as the centre. Such activities cannot flourish without political patronage,” he alleged.
“Goa is on the way to becoming Indian Pataya and this will add to the woes of the economy crisis,” he further said reiterating that nude party poster is a smoke to wrong doings in the coastal belt.
