PANJIM: The Investment Promotion Board (IPB) that met on Thursday cleared 13 projects. Ten of the projects that were given the nod involve manufacturing units, two are in the hospitality industry and one in agro-tourism. The projects are being set up with an investment of Rs 384 crore.
The board, however, withheld taking a decision on four projects and has instructed the promoters to provide more information.
The project involving the setting up of a convention centre at Merces by Victor Hospitals and Medical Services has not been cleared with the board requesting the group to provide more information.
This project required the conversion of nearly 10,000 square metres of agricultural land at Merces in Tiswadi taluka. Acquire Builders’ project to develop a 100 room hotel and spa at Varca in Salcete was cleared. The board has sought more information from Matrix Beach Ventures which seeks to build a 180 room hotel. It falls within the 200-500 metre zone from the high tide line. The Board intends to visit the site of the project proposed by Firmament Reach Buildtech Ltd. They would like to build hotel “Joia Reis Magos Goa” in Reis Magos. A decision will be taken after the visit is made. The project by Nanu to construct a 120 room five-star hotel in Merces, Tiswadi has been cleared.
The ten projects cleared in industries are as diverse as ware housing, ship building, pharma, ophthalmology and hard core manufacturing. Plots for these projects have to be cleared by the IDC and presently scrutiny is on.
With regards to projects cleared in earlier meetings, works are in various stages of commencement. The first project, a bottling plant for Pepsi, a green field project in Sanguem is now in the stage of commercial trial. It is expected to start commercial operations soon.
