PERNEM: An Iranian woman and an unknown male foreigner died of drowning at Ashwem and Arambol beaches, respectively, on Thursday. The Iranian woman is identified as Anahita Ghafouriage (30).
According to Pernem police, the first incident took place at around 3.30 pm when the Iranian woman along with her two female friends ventured into sea off Ashwem beach for a swim. However, they started drowning due to strong current.
A lifeguard on duty noticed the three Iranian women drowning and he immediately ventured into to rescue them. By the time he brought two of them on shore, the third woman drowned.
The second incident was reported at around 6 pm when a lifeguard on duty on Arambol beach found a foreigner, aged between 40 and 45, drowning. The body was fished out by the Lifeguard and handed over to Pernem police.
