PANJIM: Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) constable Pritesh Adkonkar was on Monday placed under suspension in connection with the death of a taxi driver Jayesh Chodankar from Chinchwada-Chimbel last week.
The Old Goa Police are also likely to add Section 302 of IPC against Adkonkar of Chimbel and his accomplice Krupesh Volvoikar of Salvador do Mundo. The police had earlier registered a case under Sections 504, 506 (ii), 365 and 324 read with 34 IPC.
Pascoal Cardozo also from Chimbel had filed a complaint against Adkonkar and Volvoikar for allegedly abducting, abusing and assaulting Jayesh at Patto-Ribandar on July 5. Both the accused had also threatened the victim of dire consequences. Soon after the assault, Jayesh was hit by a speeding vehicle killing him instantly.
The family members of Jayesh had Sunday had demanded action against the two assailants and to arrest them on murder charges. The family members had also refused to take possession of the body till the duo was arrested.
Old Goa PI Satish Padwalkar is conducting further investigations.
