IRB personnel nab 3 thieves at Calangute

PANJIM: The Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), posted along the coastal belt to assist authorities in ensuring safety and security of visitors, caught three persons red-handed while stealing unattended valuables of the tourists at Calangute Beach. 

The alleged thieves, whose identity was not disclosed by the North Goa police, were handed over to the Calangute Police who arrested the former for theft. 

The IRBian personnel also managed to recover the stolen belongings worth Rs 50,000 approximately from the accused. 

“The IRBian staff deployed at Tourist Police unit on beach caught three thieves in three separate cases of thefts on the Calangute Beach. The accused motive is to target tourists who leave their belongings such as bags, mobiles, etc unattended while venturing into the sea. Our team, on continuous foot and vehicle patrolling on the beach, were able to catch the trio red-handed committing the offence,” reads a statement issued by Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Shobhit Saxena.

The IRB personnel recovered mobiles and wallets, valued at Rs 50,000 approximately, from the thieves and returned to its original owners. “The thieves along with complainant tourists were escorted to Calangute Police Station by our IRBian staff for registration of FIR and further probe,” it said.   

Recently, around five mobiles were handed over to the tourists when they approached the patrolling IRBian personnel for help to locate their lost mobile phones on the beach. The lost children are also kept in safe custody until they are handed over to their parents or repatriated to their home States.
