MARGAO: The residents of Nagmoddem-Navelim are voicing their frustration over the deplorable condition of a road that has been in disrepair for nearly seven years. In response, they have issued a stern warning to authorities, threatening to launch protests if the road is not promptly repaired.
On Tuesday, numerous concerned citizens gathered at the site, directing their ire at the Public Works Department (PWD) and other relevant
authorities for their negligence, which has inconvenienced local residents and road-users.
Citizens are demanding immediate action from PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and local MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, emphasising that they have exhausted all avenues of complaint and engagement with authorities.
Advocate Pratima Coutinho, speaking on behalf of the residents, said that the road has been repeatedly dug up by authorities, causing significant hardships to the local population.
“We will block the road if repairs are not initiated within the next month,” she warned.
Resident Cruz Rodrigues revealed that they had previously written to the PWD and Navelim Panchayat regarding the issue, but any work carried out appeared to be merely for show, causing further inconvenience to locals and motorists. Rodrigues also alleged that there was no proper supervision during road excavation.
Mahesh Toraskar pointed out that the deplorable condition of the stretch had led to several minor accidents over the past few years.
