PANJIM: The Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has fixed the rate of transportation of iron ore by truck at Rs 12.33 per tonne per km.
DMG suspended its earlier notification issued on April 21, 2015, fixing Rs 11.2 per tonne per km as the transportation cost. The rates had been objected to by truck owners across the State.
“The rates for transportation are notified as per directions of the government, which are given after hearing all the concerned persons undertaking transportation of minerals,” Mines Director Prasanna Acharya said.
Acharya said that the rate has been arrived at after factoring the cost of diesel to be 28 per cent of cost and 72 per cent as other expenditure. As such if cost of diesel is Rs 52 per litre, the transportation rate would be Rs 12.33 per tonne per km.
The rates are applicable from May 1 onwards.
Currently, a truck owner gets around Rs 12 per km per tonne of ore for every trip from the mining company. Truck owners had halted transportation demanding a hike in rates. A series of meetings were undertaken with the Transport Department on the issue.
