MARGAO: Irregular supply of LPG gas cylinders to the consumers dominated the gram sabha of Varca on Sunday.
Agitated members told the panchayat body headed by Sarpanch Simao Fernandes to take up cudgels for the beleaguered LPG consumers with the LPG company and the government for regular and timely supply of cylinders to the households.
Members highlighted the plight of the gas consumers by pointing that the ground reality has not changed for the better since the villagers raised an uproar a month ago. They demanded that the panchayat body take up the matter with the company and also explore the possibility of beginning another dealership to tide over the problem. Members also demanded that the panchayat write to the Director of Civil Supplies for their intervention and action in the matter.
On the issue of a construction project, the meeting decided to write to the Town and Country Planning department to hold a joint inspection of the project to ascertain the width of the access road to the project.
The issue of road digging in respect of the laying of water pipeline for the JICA project came up for discussion with members demanding that the concerned agency should immediately take up the repair work after completing the work. They said the agency should not wait for the full completion of the work and carry out repairs of the stretch already completed.
The panchayat has decided to hold a plastic collection drive in the village on January 26 with the help of the villagers, hoteliers and various social groups and citizens, covering every nook and corner of the village.
