After Herald published a photo and story of tube light fixtures, plastic buckets, boxes and even uniforms of the civic staff hanging on the racks of the rare-books section, the MMC has cleared and cleaned the bookshelves.
Former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho has strongly criticised MMC for its failure to maintain the Municipal library.
“We have cleaned the racks and staff will not repeat this behaviour”, said Assistant Librarian Roshini Desai.
Chief Officer Rohit Kadam and members of the Library Committee have been urged to look into the matter seriously. The MMC has also assured to take up for discussion the 13 suggestions given by Goa University experts during the next council meeting.
But now a new question arises is a sweeper handling the book issue counter of the MMC library? Herald’s pursuit of the story has now revealed that in the absence of professional staff, a sweeper is handling the counter of the library. Furthermore, the file to purchase a new computer to maintain the records of the books has been pending approval for the past one year.
