MARGAO: Will the ongoing probe into the suicide attempt by the Colva police constable also touch upon the raid conducted by the Colva police at a gambling den which had reportedly brought the PC and the Colva Police station in-Charge PI Uttam Raut Desai face to face.
This question has assumed significance given that a citizen of Colva has submitted his complaint to the inquiry officer DySP Mohan Naik on the raid on the gambling den by the Colva police and the disappearance of cash amounting to Rs 15,000 from the den. While DySP Mohan Naik declined to comment on the gambling raid other than saying that the inquiry is underway, sources said that the DySP has received a written complaint from the Colva citizen about the raid and the missing money.
Police sources said the inquiry officer will have to take a close look at the allegations made by the Colva citizen of the gambling raid and the missing money since the episode had brought the constable and the PI face to face.
Herald understand that the Colva police station in-charge had called the police constable to seek information after the citizen from Colva had called at the police station complaining of the gambling raid and the missing money amounting to Rs 15,000.
Sources said the ongoing inquiry will not only help relate the gambling raid by the police to the suicide attempt by the constable, but also throw light on the raid itself, given that the Colva citizen had demanded a return on the seized money. Sources said the money seized in the raid has not been accounted so far, giving a new twist to the controversy.
