MARGAO: In what is seen as an attempt to rush with the proposal to renew construction license on Aquem’s Costa grounds, the Margao Municipal Council’s special meeting on Monday confirmed the minutes of the July 2 ordinary meeting which had resolved to renew the construction license.
The Council went ahead with the confirmation of minutes when Councilor Avinash Shirodkar requested the city fathers to keep the proposal in abeyance for some time. Councilor Damu Shirodkar also questioned the Chief Officer Deepali Naik on the question of confirming minutes of an ordinary meeting at a special meeting. The Chief Officer, however, told the Councillor that Municipal rules provide for confirmation of minutes of an ordinary meeting at a special meeting.
With the Council confirming the minutes of the ordinary meeting, the decks have been cleared for the Municipal technical section to issue licence renewal for the housing project on Costa ground.
Incidentally, the lawyer representing the Aquem Ground Bachao Association, Adv Jawahar Dias, had last week served a notice on the Council to keep the resolution on Costa grounds in abeyance on grounds that it was null and void.
Though the Aquem ground issue was not listed on the special meeting agenda, the issue had its echo at the outset, with members demanding an apology from Councillor Damu Shirodkar, saying that he had allegedly instigated the people of Aquem to gherao the Councillors for passing the resolution for license renewal. Damudenied the allegations.
