PANJIM: Alleged attempt to shield those allegedly involved in sex trade at Calangute has come under scrutiny and questions are being raised as to why the owner of the dance pub has been let off even though he was said to be present when the establishment was raided.
Calangute police had rescued 18 girls, originally hailing from Manipur, Sikkim, Nepal and Goa, during the raid at the discothèque last Saturday on a tip-off that the place was doubling as a prostitution den.
The manager Ronny Chakravarthy was arrested but the owner, who was also present at the time of the police raid, was not arrested.
Sources said the girls, presently lodged in a protective home, told the government officials inquiring into the case that the pub owner had brought them to Goa for prostitution.
“He had brought these girls to Goa and through them many other such girls for the purpose of prostitution. But he is neither being questioned nor arrested. His arrest could lead to nabbing of other kingpins involved in the racket,” a source disclosed.
