MARGAO: The All Goa Suit Tailors Association has urged the government to take utmost precautions while granting licences to tailoring shops to non Goans.
The demand comes in the wake of the alleged rape of a girl by a tailor, who stitches suits and garments.
The Association led by Blaize Naina has urged that the government should take utmost precautions in granting tailoring licences to the non Goans by getting their full police verification with their past background in the interest of our profession so that such crimes are not repeated in the future, so also the persons giving their premises on lease should take proper precautions while granting such premises on lease.
“Our Association is concerned with an incident occurred in the tailoring shop and the public in general is alerted to keep themselves safe in view of the case where in a tailor by name Gulsher Ahmed, a native of Uttarakhand, running his tailoring business in the name ‘Perfect Fit’ in Odyssey Building, Navelim and also in Baboy Complex in Margao,” said All Goa Suit Tailors Association.
“The above incident is totally shocking and a set back to our tailoring business which would discourage our customers, particularly the female customers, to visit the tailoring shop and the same would bring ill-repute to our profession. Government is urged to take strict steps and to see that the interest of Goans is protected at every sphere to match the slogan Goem, Goemkar, Goenkarponn. Needless to say that the public should keep themselves alert, particularly the ladies visiting the tailoring shops to get their costumes stitched,” said the association.
