PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come down heavily on the current political happenings in the State arguing that several issues concerning the common man are not getting any attention.
Convener and South Goa Lok Sabha Candidate Elvis Gomes has accused the BJP for bringing disrepute to the State by indulging in horse trading to remain in power and taking advantage of the weakness of the Opposition.
He also enumerated series of defections happening cutting across party lines such as BJP loyalist Sudhir Kandolkar’s resignation from the party to join Congress.
“Had Joshua D’Souza been denied the BJP ticket, the roles would have been reversed wherein Joshua would have landed in Congress,” he commented.
“Although AAP would not like to enter into the internal workings of the MGP, the manner in which former MLA and MGP General Secretary Lavoo Mamledar was treated did not present a picture of decency and showed that the common man had no place in the MGP hierarchy,” added.
During the last weekend, BJP denied ticket to Sudhir by awarding Joshua with the ticket to contest the Mapusa by-polls after his father Francis’ death last month. This angered Sudhir who immediately quit the party and joined Congress to contest against Joshua. The coalition government’s ally MGP also faced turmoil as it suspended former MLA Lavoo Mamledar for six years citing his anti-party activities.
Gomes further brought to the fore Goa Forward Party leader Babush Monseratte’s resignation from the party to contest the upcoming by-polls in Panjim.
General Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar claimed that political situation in the State could witness more developments as their three BJP MLAs are likely to join Congress.
