MARGAO: Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council Siddhivinayak Naik said the High Court order was binding upon every law abiding citizen and hence they were obliged to implement it. He said he had his team that will look into the matter of people dumping construction debris in open space and take appropriate steps.
“We have not yet received a copy of the order and will have to read it so that it can be implemented in letter and spirit,” he said refusing to add anything extra but insisting that the order was binding upon all concerned.
Panchayat Secretary of Guirdolim panchayat Dinesh Gaonkar pointed out that somewhere in July designated dumping areas for construction debris were informed to the panchayat which were in Navelim and Verna.
“We have been taking an affidavit from people applying to construction license that they will dump all debris at the designated sites,” he said adding that if there are any violations then the construction license can be revoked.
Prabhakar Kamati secretary of Benaulim panchayat while stating that Benaulim has no problem of construction debris being dumped in open spaces, said this problem occurs only when old houses are demolished for renovation.
Sao Jose de Areal secretary Sriram Agrasani welcomed the High Court order and said that due to the order panchayats will act against dumping of debris anywhere and everywhere. “People were getting troubled as debris was being dumped anywhere and all that will now stop as the High Court order will be taken seriously,” he said.
